Louis poulsen LP Grand Wall Light
LP GRAND WALL LIGHT
LP GRAND WALL LIGHT
Designed by Christian Flindt
The circular luminaire emits a combination of softly diffused, glare-free, downwardly directed light and reflected indirect light from its curved upper rings.
A large angled reflector encircles the diffuser and reduces the contrast around the edge. The top reflector is perfectly curved to distribute uplight at a broad angle.
A colored outer shade surrounds the reflector and creates an interreflection of light, resulting in a graceful glow on the outside of the top and bottom reflectors. In total, it creates four rings of light surrounding the central diffuser.
DESIGNER
CHRISTIAN FLINDT
Christian Flindt (1972-) graduated with an MAA and MDD from Aarhus School of Architecture in 2002. He then started his own design company in 2003. Here, he placed high emphasis on communication between people, and his focus on this area finds expression in his approach to re-evaluating furniture. He wants his furniture to inspire people to make new connections.
Christian Flindt’s fresh and daring designs in conventional constructions prove that he is a designer with the courage to experiment. He develops innovative furniture and through his work with LED design, for example, he succeeds in blending disparate fields such as lighting and furniture design.
Christian Flindt began working with Louis Poulsen in 2006, since when he has developed the Flindt Bollard, the LP Xperi, the LP Grand, and the Flindt Wall. The latter won the Danish Design Award in 2019.
Christian Flindt is also known for his sculptural and rightfully praised chairs: Orchid, Ripple Chair and Light Lounger. He has held exhibitions and participated in trade fairs all over the world, and has been awarded a string of prizes including: the Bo Bedre Design Award 2005 and the Bolig Magasinet Design Award for the Flindt range he created for Louis Poulsen, the States Art Foundation Kunstfonds three year workgrant in 2012, the Knud V. Engelhardts Memorial scholarship in 2013, the ELFORSK Price in 2014 by the Danish Department of Energy and Electricity with "Flindt Bollard" for Louis Poulsen, and in 2015 the Kold Christensens honorary scholarship.

THE STORY BEHIND THE PRODUCT
The first LP Grand came into existence in 2016 after Louis Poulsen approached the prize-winning Danish designer Christian Flindt with a request. Louis Poulsen wanted Flindt to develop a scalable pendant for large spaces. It should take up little room—and incorporate Louis Poulsen’s DNA of Design to Shape Light, even on a large scale.
Flindt returned with the elegant LP Grand, which combines direct and reflected light in and between its shade of beautifully curved and open rings, ensuring glare-free light of the highest quality—while providing a warm and pleasant ambiance. Flindt himself has referred to the LP Grand as, "the sun on a day, where it glows through misty air, softening the light."
In 2022, Flindt has designed the latest addition to the Grand series of pendants in collaboration with Louis Poulsen—the LP Grand 320. 320 refers to the fixture's diameter, making it the smallest of the LP Grands so far. The LP Grand 320 includes a warmer light temperature of 2700K and phase dimming. These new features make this most recent pendant and wall lamp far more applicable—not only in homes but also in hospitality environments like hotel lobbies and reception areas, and in meeting rooms, offices, and libraries.
