A conversation with a stranger can have a positive influence on well-being. Research shows that people do not just mind to converse with a stranger, they even like it, but do not dare to take the initiative. With Chairwave, VOUW wants to encourage contact between strangers in public space.
The moment someone walks close to the Chairwave, a seat is presented to sit on, when the person sits down, the seats next to that person unfold, leaving them open as the only options for the following person to sit on.
This is the perfect moment to start a conversation. With Chairwave VOUW wants to make people aware of the value of a real conversation and to establish a connection with each other.

Due to the Covid pandemic, we discovered the vital significance of togetherness. Chairwave simplifies the act of striking up a conversation with a stranger by breaking down barriers.Throughout the design process, we rigorously tested the effectiveness of this principle. LIGHT IN DARK PLACES
Because Chairwave is designed for public space, lighting is a key element for safety. With the light we highlight the two most iconic parts of the chairs, the seat and the backrest. Using a lighting solution with Light Guide plates, both elements could be fully lit up while remaining a flat and strong design.
