An adaptation inspired by sketches of the original lamp by Hvidt & Mølgaard, the Tripod wall lamp remains true to the essence of the Tripod design.
Cafted from lacquered aluminum, the wall lamp is anchored by a spherical base that establishes a visually solid foundation, while the shade’s swivel feature allows the lamp to distribute a generous diffusion of light.
DESIGNER
HVIDT & MØLGAARD
Renowned for the simplicity and craftsmanship of their designs, Peter Hvidt (1916-1986) met Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen (1907-1993) at Kunsthåndværkerskolens Snedkerskole, where he began first as his student and later taught alongside him.
The two formed an instant, close friendship, moving on to experience their first success as a design duo after entering and winning the 1943 Swedish Slöjdföreningen's competition.
Pioneers of today’s known and loved flat-pack system, the two honed their skills in the realm of buildable furniture during a major international venture, the 1944 Portex series.
A collection of pieces made entirely of Danish beech wood, the Portex series was created for export to rebuild Europe’s war-torn countries.
The success of their 1950 AX lounge chair, was a seminal moment for the pair.
Not only did its smooth, tightly controlled silhouette secure their stance as leaders of Danish modernism, but the use of laminated wood allowed the chair to be produced on a mass scale and exported internationally.
This forward-thinking approach to industrialised production paved the way for a new movement that drew upon classical craftsmanship techniques to make affordable, beautifully made home furnishings.
Securing their stance as leaders of Danish Modernism while shaping a precise, timeless aesthetic with organic materials, Hvidt & Mølgaard went on to design countless pieces of furniture over the years, many of which became icons of the era.
Today, their work can be found exhibited at MoMA, Victoria and Albert Museum, Melbourne’s National Gallery, and Copenhagen’s Design Museum.

PRODUCTION PROCESS
The shade is on a rotational joint and spun from a single piece of aluminium. The base is made of bent steel tubes and welded together. The lamp is painted in a satin matt finish.
