THOMAS BERNSTRAND
Driven by boundless curiosity and a sharp critical eye, Thomas Bernstrand approaches design as a way to question established perceptions and conventions of use.
His projects often involve unexpected contextual shifts, where distinct design idioms and functions emerge in places where they would not normally belong.
Among his most iconic works are the Dikanyama and Shibuya lighting series, created for Zero, and the modular Bob sofa, designed in collaboration with Stefan Borselius for Blå Station. The dB collection of sound-absorbing panels marks his first project for Abstracta.
Born in 1965 and based in Stockholm, Bernstrand studied at Konstfack – University College of Arts, Crafts and Design – and at the Royal Institute of Art in the Swedish capital.
He has received numerous awards in Sweden and abroad, and has exhibited his work in prestigious international venues including Colette in Paris and MoMA in New York.
