The base of the Archibald Gran Comfort ottoman rests on four steel feet connected by a perimeter frame with a Ruthenium finish.
The structure is made of birch plywood with a black matte, scratch-resistant beech platform.
The padding is made of shaped block polyurethane foam, covered by a goose down quilt fixed to the cushion with Velcro strips.
The outer upholstery of the Archibald Gran Comfort ottoman is available in Pelle Frau® Safari leather or a selection of Poltrona Frau fabrics, and is removable in both versions. In the leather version, the perimeter edge is crafted with raw-cut leather, hand-painted in a matching shade. The stitching can be tone-on-tone or contrasting. In the fabric version, the stitching is tone-on-tone.
DESIGNER
JEAN-MARIE MASSAUD
Born in Toulouse in 1966, Jean-Marie Massaud graduated in 1990 from Les Ateliers, Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle, Paris.
He began to work both in Asia and in France, finally opening his own office in Paris in 1994. Since than, he has dedicated himself to industrial and furniture design, building important relationships with brands such as Authentics, Baccarat and Magis.
His collaboration with Marc Berthier and his work in the field of town planning led him towards design and architecture. He is concerned with design in various contexts, industrial products and furniture. His contextual approach centres on research into the essential, within which the individual remains the centre of attention.
It is a work upheld by research into the senses, magic, and vital emotion which brings him to work with very different brands: Cassina, Poltrona Frau, Cappellini, Cacharel, Lancôme, Tronconi and Yamaha offshore.
His works have been awarded several prizes and many of his designs are nowadays on show in the design collections of the major museums worldwide: from Amsterdam, Chicago, London, Paris and Zurich:
from the permanent collection of the Musée National d'Art Moderne de Paris to the permanent collections of the Museum für Gestaltung, Zürich, of The Chicago Athenaeum- Museum of Architecture and Design, of The Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam and of The Musée des arts Décoratifs, Paris.

Inspired by his iconic Archibald chair, Wallpaper*Award in the “Best Domestic Design” section in 2009, Jean-Marie Massaud provides a sleeker and more informal take on the original model, creating another of the most beloved and distinctive products in the Poltrona Frau catalogue.
When designing the Archibald Gran Comfort armchair Jean-Marie Massaud envisaged a kind of overabundant soft bag that creates a rich movement of folds as it fits over and drops down onto a thin metal architecture with steel frame and feet.
The result was a welcoming and sophisticated contrast of volumes and materials that soon became a recognised model of contemporary elegance.
Archibald Gran Comfort also stands out for its particular technical characteristics. In fact, the armchair was created with the idea that it could be easily disassembled into its component parts:
A metal frame, a soft goose down quilt and an external cover, applied one on top of the other. In this way the leather and the fabric are fixed to the framee with removable Velcro straps, concealed in the area of contact with the outer frame. A solution that makes the product more practical and also sustainable in the sense that it can easily be disassembled at the end of its life. The soft Archibald Gran Comfort pouf is the natural complement to the armchair.
