Ultraleggera Armchair expands the language of one of Zieta Studio’s most radical ideas—extreme lightness—into an embracing form. With the addition of armrests, the design evolves naturally, offering greater comfort and spatial presence.

THE DISCIPLINE OF REDUCTION 

At Zieta Studio, “less is less” is not a slogan but a design method. Ultraleggera Armchair is the result of continuous refinement, where every curve, joint, and surface is reduced to its necessity. Developed through parametric design and formed using FiDU technology, it achieves an exceptional balance between minimal weight and maximum performance.

DETAIL 

Ultraleggera Armchair premiered in San Francisco during the professional exhibition Zieta x Policroma x CRI in spring 2026. Presented in a context of material innovation and collaborative research, it marked the next step in the evolution of the Ultraleggera family—also available to visitors during Salone del Mobile.Milano 2026.

STRUCTURE 

At the core of Ultraleggera Armchair lies FiDU—Free Inner Pressure Forming. Flat aluminium profiles are precisely welded and then expanded with air, forming lightweight yet remarkably strong structural elements. Inspired by natural systems, this process enables advanced optimization of the weight-to-strength ratio.

EVOLVING ULTRALEGGERA FAMILY 

Building on the legacy of the Ultraleggera Chair, the Armchair completes the growing Ultraleggera family, alongside the Ultraleggera Stool, Ultraleggera Coffee Table, and Ultraleggera Table—while preserving the essence that defines Ultraleggera: precision, efficiency, and ultralightness.

ALUMINIUM AS A SYSTEM 

Ultraleggera Armchair is made entirely of aluminium—frame, seat, backrest, and connections form a coherent structure. This monomaterial approach eliminates unnecessary complexity and allows the object to fully re-enter the material cycle. In this sense, the Armchair is not a finished product, but part of an ongoing process—durable, responsible, and future-oriented.

COMFORT 

Ultraleggera Armchair retains the clarity and recognizability of the original design while introducing a new level of comfort. The armrests extend the geometry into a more relaxed, supportive posture—inviting longer use without adding visual weight. It is an object that reveals itself gradually: first through its silhouette, then through the unexpected sensation of lifting and using it.
