DESIGNER
VINCENT VAN DUYSEN
Vincent Van Duysen’s collections for Serax epitomise the pureness of form and intuitive relationship with materials that have helped cement his reputation as one of Europe’s leading architects and designers.
After early experiences in the studios of influential Italian post-Modernist Aldo Cibic and Belgian interior designer Jean de Meulder, van Duysen was quick to establish his own path, leading to the launch of his practice in Antwerp – the city that has been his home since the 1980s.
He quickly garnered international acclaim for his ability to create distinctively atmospheric, serene, and tactile spaces in which every element is connected and considered: a “total environment”.
Over a career spanning more than three decades, he has refined this approach, applying it at every scale. From buildings to chairs, each project is richly layered, drawing on influences from art history and Modernist architecture and design, and combining a deep respect for natural materials and colour palettes with a singularly contemporary sensibility.
This philosophy resonates clearly in his Cena tableware, Passe-partout tableware, and August outdoor furniture collections for Serax.

CARE GUIDE
WOOD
Wood is a natural material that develops a strong patina over time, which we at Serax very much appreciate.
Because the pattern of the grain differs with each piece of wood, no product will look exactly the same. This gives a wooden object a certain uniqueness.
The daily maintenance of wooden furniture consists of dusting with a soft microfibre cloth.
Remove any stains with a damp cloth and mild, colourless soap. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents or abrasives, as they will damage the wood lacquer.
For wooden accessories, such as cutlery and boards, hand washing is recommended. Use a mild detergent or just water.
Avoid immersing the wood completely and allow it to dry naturally, preferably upright, after washing.
Please note that wood is not dishwasher-proof. To avoid discolouration and distortion, do not leave wooden objects in direct sunlight.
Oiled wooden objects, such as the cutting boards from the Pure collection, can be kept in top condition by giving them a new layer of oil from time to time. Use a simple, natural oil from the kitchen, such as olive oil or sunflower oil. This does not apply to varnish-coated products.
METALS
At Serax, we use various metals, including steel, cast iron and aluminium. Each metal has its own precautions.
Steel can rust when exposed to moisture and oxygen. That’s why we have put a protective coating on it.
When cleaning, use a soft cloth and mild soap to avoid scratching the coating. Always drying well after cleaning is not an unnecessary luxury.
Our cast iron teapots are enamelled on the inside and, therefore, stainless. The exterior is thermally coated and is not fully water resistant. Dry the teapot thoroughly after use.
If some rust develops, remove the stain with a soft brush or sponge. If you have persistent rust, you can use cola.
Rinse, dry thoroughly and rub the teapot with some (olive) oil if necessary.
Aluminium oxidises naturally, but that doesn’t harm. On the contrary, the oxidised top layer avoids harmful rust.
For this reason, aluminium is water-resistant and a suitable material for outdoor furniture. We apply an extra protected coating on the aluminium and recommend not to use aggressive cleaning agents.
