DESIGNER
SEPPE VAN HEUSDEN
Dutch designer Seppe van Heusden intuitively creates objects that ascribe meaning to their space and context.
Van Heusden graduated from Lund University School of Industrial Design (Sweden) in 2020, where he now works as a part-time lecturer.
At the same time, he started as independent designer, with a focus on lighting, furniture and interior objects.
In his work, van Heusden seeks to establish an architectural link with the aim of designing timeless objects.
By working with contrasts, his designs acquire both subtlety and immediacy. Inspired by his experience with porcelain, he combines honest materials to create natural results.
This approach is reflected in the Seam lighting collection for Serax, where the visible seam of the porcelain shade becomes a defining feature and a poetic expression of material authenticity.

COLLECTION
The Seam lamps by Dutch designer Seppe Van Heusden show an interesting contrast between a black steel arm and base and a poetic porcelain lampshade. The name is inspired by the lampshade’s visible seam of the mold, used for casting the porcelain shade. ‘The purpose of my work is to make the most of the characteristics of the material and its process in the form of objects that express calmness.
MATERIAL CARE
STEEL
Steel can rust when exposed to moisture and oxygen. That’s why we have put a protective coating on it. When cleaning, use a soft cloth and mild soap to avoid scratching the coating. Always drying well after cleaning is not an unnecessary luxury.
PORCELAIN
Porcelain is a high-quality and refined material that is very scratch-resistant. Since our products are often finished by hand, imperfections in the colour and glaze can occur. As far as we are concerned, they contribute to the uniqueness and beauty of the object.
Our porcelain can be cleaned in the dishwasher. We recommend the use of regular washing tablets (and not 3-in-1 tablets) and a temperature of up to 65°C. Anti-scale salts (such as regeneration salt) and excessive temperatures damage the glaze.
To avoid minor vibration and collision damage that often leads to the beginning of larger breakage, do not place the tableware too close together in the dishwasher. We also recommend that porcelain and metal (such as pans and cutlery) be kept separate in the machine.
Indeed, dark scratches may appear on the porcelain after contact with metal. For the maintenance of decorative objects made of porcelain, we recommend that you dust them with a damp cloth.
