Round seat shell made of polyethylene as a lounge island
The Flying Dishman, designed by Joep van Lieshout, is a round lounge island made of Polyethylene(PE).
This material is highly recyclable and the product thus contains 60% post-consumer recycled plastic, making it robust and durable. The remaining 40% is still new plastic.
The round design of the seat shell allows for a 360-degree view and accommodates 2 to 3 people to lie down. Enjoy nature and unwind on the Flying Dishman.
Comes standard with cushion set in your choice of color: green or orange. The new cushion set consists of a large mattress with a diameter of 165cm and 40mm thickness, two cushions off 70x70cm and a cushion of 100x70cm.
The mattress is made of a light beige waterproof outdoor fabric with a filling of HR polyurethane foam. The pillows are also made of a waterproof outdoor fabric and have polyester fiber filling. The mattress and pillows have a zipper so the covers can be removed and washed.

JOEP VAN LIESHOUT
At age sixteen, Joep van Lieshout got accepted at the Rotterdam Academy of the Arts. He quickly rose to fame after graduation, with projects ranging from easy-clean designs to the non-functional area of art.
Joep lives and works in Rotterdam, where he founded his own studio ‘Atelier van Lieshout’ in 1995.
Together with a team he creates objects that push boundaries and bring architecture, art and design together. Recurring themes and motives in his work are those of systems, power, autarky, life, sex and death.

The unique collaboration with Joep van Lieshout has led to the creation of the Flying Dishman. This lounge island is made out of recycled plastics and the circular design allows for a 360 degrees view.
The name is inspired by the myth of the Flying Dutchman, who had to keep sailing and could not leave his ship, resembling the life of the modern man, never sitting down, but constantly moving. The Flying Dishman offers the ideal place to hide out and take a break from our mad world.

AN UNRESTRICTED VIEWS
Thanks to its circular design, the Flying Dishman is never directed towards one particular vista. Without moving the lounge island, you can easily change your position. Move around, pick a new vista or move along with the sun.
TAKE A BREAK
The lounge island is the ideal place to relax and forget about your daily worries. It fits 2 to 3 people laying down. Add some cushions and soft blankets and enjoy each other’s company.
RECYCLED PLASTICS
Next to looking good, the Flying Dishman is sustainable as well. It is partly fabricated from recycled waste containers and partly from new material, mixed together to a dark green color. A huge benefit of the material is that it can withstand daily weather conditions and requires almost no maintenance.
