The Machiya Exterior bench is an outdoor bench created by Japanese designer Jin Kuramoto.
Machiya is the name of traditional wooden townhouses found throughout Japan which are built side-by-side, making them space efficiently, and with characteristic wooden lattices on the facade.
Through beautiful lines and a smart storage shelf these features are implemented in the Machiya Exterior bench. Our Machiya Exterior bench is handcrafted in Alu-Rattan and ArtFibre, and therefore has a unique strength and durability.
Alu-Rattan is weather-resistant powder-coated aluminum and ArtFibre is artificial fibers made from polyethylene.

JIN KURAMOTO
Designer
Jin Kuramoto (1976-) is a Japanese designer who graduated from Kanazawa College of Art in 1999.
With an experimental approach to design, and a great respect for the unique inherent properties of each material, Kuramoto tells a story through each of his designs. Kuramoto has received international recognition and numerous awards including the Red Dot Award, Good Design award and the iF Product Design Award.
EXTERIOR | ALU-RATTAN & ARTFIBRE
The furniture in our Exterior collection is handcrafted in Alu-Rattan and Sika-Design ArtFibre®. Alu-Rattan is powder-coated aluminum that has been developed to resemble rattan and its unique shaping ability.
Powder coating has the advantage that it can withstand hard wear and high temperatures. Rattan comes in 600 different variants and at Sika-Design we only use the two best qualities called Tohiti and Manau.
MAINTENANCE
Our Exterior furniture requires no maintenance. The furniture is suitable for standing outside all year round and is easy to clean. For general cleaning, the furniture can be washed with water mixed with mild soap.
