The AJ lamp series is regarded worldwide as Danish architect Arne Jacobsen’s best work.
He designed the series in 1957 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen (Radisson Collection), at which time it consisted of a floor lamp, a wall lamp, a table lamp, a smaller table lamp and a table lamp, designed to be attached to a table.
Arne Jacobsen designed the SAS Royal Hotel down to the smallest detail for Scandinavian Airlines, including most of the furniture and utility items. The design is recognisable to a keen design eye.
The profile of the AJ Lamp with its straight lines and combination of oblique and right angles is not only seen as a parallel to the profile of the Series 3300 sofa and chairs, but also to the geometric profiles of his buildings.

Designer
Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971) is a world-famous Danish modernist architect, who designed numerous buildings in Denmark, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
Born and raised in Copenhagen, Jacobsen pursued his architecture degree at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen.
After graduating in 1927, he got his first job working for the City Architect of Copenhagen, and just two years later he opened his own studio. As an architect, Arne Jacobsen had very strong decision-making skills.
This resulted in many of his more famous projects being ‘gesamtkunstwerk’, meaning he designed not only the building itself, but also the majority of the interior details, such as light fixtures, furniture, door handles, fabrics and even cutlery.
Along with ‘The Egg’ and ‘The Swan’ chairs, Jacobsen originallydesigned the AJ Lamp for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, which opened in 1960.
During his lifetime, Arne Jacobsen received several prestigious awards, for projects such as the National Bank in Copenhagen (1971), SAS Royal Hotel & Terminal, Copenhagen (1960), and St. Catherine’s College in Oxford, UK (1963). Some say that his fear of flying hindered his potential to make an impact on the American architectural environment.
Jacobsen worked as a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts for 11 years, influencing an entire generation of Danish architects, each of whom eventually developed their own architectural language, many of which were built upon the same functionalist and minimalist approach as Arne Jacobsen’s.

LIGHT CONCEPT
This outdoor lamp emits a pleasant fully shaded downward directed, glare-free light. It is available in two different heights, and has a fixed head and the inside of the shade is painted white to ensure a soft, pleasant reflection of light. The shape of the shade provides superior lighting, allowing an optimal view of the surroundings. The garden bollard can be fitted with three different installation types namely a base plate, a spike or an anchor.

USE
The AJ Lamp was used in several rooms in the hotel, in copper and stainless steel. Additionally, the AJ Wall in stainless steel formed exquisite rows in the hotel lobby. The AJ Garden bollard follows the same design principles, and is based on the dimensions of the AJ Mini Table Lamp and has the same sophisticated expression, just as the stem has the same characteristic tilt angle as the AJ Floor.

HERITAGE MEETS MODERN
Originally designed by arne jacobsen, for the sas royal hotel in Copenhagen, the aj lamp family is a classic, which contributed to the modernist style of the hotel, with its graphic lines and simple elegance. The new aj garden bollard with its clean and refined expression, reflects the characteristic design of the family, utilising recognisable angles from the aj floor lamp.
ENVIRONMENTAL PRODUCT INFORMATION
This product is compliant with the requirements contained in the European Directives, RoHS Directive 2011/65 and 2015/863. This product is designed so that 100% of the product can be disassembled and reused.
Louis Poulsen is part of ELRETUR which ensures that electronic waste (WEEE) across of Europa is reused. This product must be treated as electronic waste. The product is packaged in a fabric bag and a cardboard box. The cardboard is made from min. 75% recycled fibremass. Additional cardboard material comes from FSC approved sources.
MOUNTING
AJ Garden is fitted with external adaptor, a maximum of 6 bollards (6,5 W) can be run by one adaptor. The adaptor must be bought separately. Maximum distance to last bollard is 30 m. Length of enclosed cables: 5 m. Stem: Ø12 mm. Spike mounting: Put the bollard with the spike into the ground and let the cable run over the ground.
The bollard is connected to the adaptor with the enclosed cable and T-connector. Plug-and-Play. Anchor mounting: Anchor unit to be fixed in concrete. Use installation tubes for inground installation, with enclosed cables running inside, for legal fixed installation. Requires installation by certified electrician. When using T-connector for multiple bollards the connector must be easily accessible.

Aj garden bollards are available in three versions: with anchor, baseplate, or spike.
The bollard is run by an external driver/adaptor (24V) that must be bought separately. A maximum of six AJ Garden bollards (6,5W) can be run by one adaptor.
SPIKE
For direct placement into the ground. Plug-and-Play.
24V: Bollard with spike, T-connector, and 5 m. cable with plugs.
Put the bollard with the spike into the ground. Let the enclosed cable 5 m. run over the ground. The bollard is connected to the adaptor using standard plugs delivered with the fixture. Plug-and-Play.
Adaptor must be bought separately.
ANCHOR
Anchor unit to be fixed in concrete. Requires installation by certified electrician.
